Asheville Cinema Festival

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

We strive to celebrate all types of indie filmmakers, and also nurture their skills. The 2013 Asheville Cinema Festival (ACF) had over 45 filmmakers attend for Q&As with their films, meet industry professionals, make new connections, and attend workshops.

We were able provide a discount for housing for our filmmakers and their guests.

ACF 2013 was also among the first screenings anywhere of this year's films August: Osage County and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which won Best of the Festival. With the 2014 FESTIVAL we are going to provide an even more unique and rewarding experience for every one of our accepted filmmakers.

The mission of ACF is to inspire both filmmakers and lovers of film to embrace and support the world of independent cinema. We strive to bring the best narrative features, documentaries, shorts, foreign, student, and animated films from around the world to the passionate cinema audience of Western North Carolina.

ACF also aspires to have as many filmmakers as possible attend with their films to share them with audiences and other filmmakers. The internationally popular mountain setting of Asheville, NC provides a perfect backdrop for this festival celebrating independent film.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Asheville Cinema Festival (ACF) is presented by the Asheville Cinema Society (ACS) which was created by two independent filmmakers, Tom and Sandi Anton. Having produced two independent features with Tom as director and Sandi as screenwriter, the Antons sought to share their love of film with Asheville by creating a cinema society. The central goal of ACS is to broaden the awareness and power of independent film to the Asheville community at large. ACS screens two independent films per month and works to bring the filmmaker to the screening so they can share their film and stories from production with a new, film-loving audience.

After ACS became a quick success, the next step was to bring a large number of great independent films and filmmakers together for a unique multi-day festival. Along with showcasing new films, a main objective of ACF is to provide a rich educational opportunity to filmmakers, students and the general public through onsite workshops, panel discussions, and events. ACF encourages filmmakers to submit their most recent films along with films that may have gone through the festival circuit but did not play in Asheville. ACF and ACS strive to create an opportunity for these films to be exposed to industry professionals and new audiences while encouraging the appreciation and support of independent cinema.
